Beware of the 016 /PRIVATE unknown caller from Prestige Card Center

Tips to protect your credit card information by yzene

I received a call from Prestige Platinum Card center from Kuala Lumper 0162278607 on one Saturday morning. The caller was a Malay lady, she was able to call out my name and asked for my card expiry date for verification purpose.
It was very suspicious as the background of the caller was noisy and the caller spoke in Bahasa. Most of the Maybank staffs I deal with are fluent in English. This started to tips me off . I asked her why she was asking for the card information as they have all of my information in Maybank. She tried to explain the verification purpose. I was too stupid to believe that giving them the card numbers will not enable the company make any transaction for long as I don't reveal my CVV number (but I was wrong).

Immediately, I called the Maybank customer service, the helpdesk was so arrogant. She sounds like condemning me being stupid to reveal card information. I nearly quarreled with her over the phone . She told me she can't do anything for this case and asking me to call back the Digi caller. She asked me to monitor my account, call the maybank again once found suspicious charge. Stupid & bad attitude, I might at risk & probably will induce more dispute, I afraid Maybank will insist to charge me later. As I insisted to cancel my credit card else I will cut the card myself. She said I have go to the branch myself to cancel it.

Furiously, I called back the digi number again. Another lady, Dina picked up the phone and claim that she was under Maybank card center. Then I pretended asking her why the other lady called me just now. She said she will check again but never call back.

Luckily I found this blog. http://blog.cyberpartygal.com/index.php/2008/10/vip-card-from-menara-kuala-lumpur/Then onlyI know Maybank can block the transaction/cancel the card and give me a replacement. I called Maybank service center again. Luckily, this time the customer service personnel was friendlier. Mr Chow patiently listen to my complaint. He told me giving the expiry date and card number might at risk too even though I din give them my CVV number. He canceled my card and replace a new 1 for me. All the installment plan are not affected also. But when I asked what can Maybank do to prevent this incident, as I told him I could give them the number for their investigation on the fraud. However, he said they can't do anything with this.

2 days later, I received a PRIVATE number call, and ask about the delivery of Visa Card, I was alerted with the scam, and I answered "belum dapat", she hanged up the phone immediately.
After I received the new card, a malay lady called me again, The phone number was odd this time, and asked about the card details again. Without waiting for her explanation, I immediately told her that I "tak minat" and she just hanged up the phone. They could be in the same gang and somehow able to hijack our information.

Here are the tips to protect your CC information
1) For any company that required to photocopy your CC, pls ensure they grey out your CVV (The last 3 digit number on the back of credit card) and expiry date. As they only need the photocopy for record purpose.

2) Even without the CVV number, the scammer still can make the transaction online. Do not reveal your name and expiry date as both are important for the online transaction.
3) Do not let CC out of your sight when making payment.
4) Lastly, monitor your CC account regularly and alert the bank with any suspicious charge
